Approach
I know what works and what doesn't work.
Everyone knows the benefits of diversity, There's the business
case, the ethical arguements and the PR angle. There's also a
decrease in risk for your organisation if you have fair policies
and procedures in place, where people feel they are respected and
treated fairly.
You know this. What you don't know is whether an equality and
diversity consultant can be effective in producing these
benefits.
I can see why you may be doubtful. There is no regulation of
equality and diversity consultants or trainers. There is nothing to
stop anyone from declaring themselves a specialist in the
area. Next time you want some equality and diversity support,
make sure that person gives you evidence of what makes them a
specialist.
My evidence? I studied Human Rights and Equality at university.
I practised law in Scotland's largest law firms for 6 years before
joining a global HR consultancy. I have contributed to the Equal Oppportunities
Review and XPert
HR. I have extensive experience in embedding equality and
diversity into processes. I partner with innovative leading
organisations and they will tell you what I contribute.
Finally, I do not preach or bang drums. It just doesn't
work.
