Equality Impact Assessment Training

Unveiling the mystery

This training is for policy and decision makers. They will leave this session knowing that equality impact assessments are not difficult. They are an effective way of improving services, which will have a positive effect on the bottom line.

The session focuses on theory and practice. If you know the basic theory behind equality impact assessments, and what you are aiming to achieve, then with a bit of practice you will soon be producing proportionate and effective assessments.

Another key message is the importance of screening. You do not have to impact assess everything that you do. This is not a cottage industry. You need to use judgement to decide if a policy, practice or decision is of sufficient relevance and scale as to warrant a full equality impact assessment.

Attendees will leave this session knowing why, when and how they have to do equality impact assessments (in Scotland) or equality analyses. And then, with a bit of luck, they will go forth and multiply.

I also provide Equality Impact Assessment Clinics, where your staff vist me on your premises with their drafts and any queries. This is an effective way of ensuring quality assurance, and will also increase your staff's confidence in their ability to produce effectives equality impact assessments.
