Film and TV Training Bursaries - Strategic Framework

National Film and Television School

Background

The National Film and Television School delivers training and innovation for the film and television sector. Part of its remit is to set up bursary funding for people who live and work in Scotland with a view to helping to increase diversity and equality within Scotland’s screen and television industry.

They asked us assist with developing a strategic framework to reduce barriers for potential students whether of income, geography or because of protected characteristics.

Approach

We advised that where possible an objective and transparent system should be used to rank bursary applicants. A points system can also be used as a positive action initiative, for example, by awarding extra points for people who have received free school meals.

Process

We reviewed the organisation’s website and social media to see how they promoted the training courses. We then developed criteria for priority groups and created a strategy and weighted framework where priority groups received additional points once they had demonstrated the essential criteria.
